A Week in Arrecife - Exploring Lanzarote by Bus

Most people arriving in Lanzarote pass through Arrecife Airport and head straight for one of the island's beach resorts.

But if beach holidays are not your thing, and you prefer instead to explore this fascinating volcanic island, Arrecife makes a great base. It has a few good hotels, some small but interesting museums, a very pleasant seafront and beach, a modern marina and port, and a lovely natural lagoon surrounded by a great choice of restaurants.

But most importantly you can get buses from here to almost all parts of the island, making it easy to explore Lanzarote without hiring a car.

Great places to visit on the island include the excellent Jardin de Cactus (a must for all lovers of cacti and succulents), Jameos del Agua, an unusual attraction built inside an enormous collapsed lava tube, which has gardens, a beautiful underground lake with unique white lobsters, refreshment areas and even a concert hall and Cueva de los Verdes where you can explore another section of the hugely impressive lava tube mentioned above.

It is also easy to take a ferry to the neighbouring island of La Graciosa, where you can enjoy solitude and great walks.
